Civilization?

Alright, so I’ve gotten to a point in the game where I have to map an actual town…honestly, I’m not too thrilled. My main problem is that I’m lacking a chipset that will carry the feel of the kind of city I’m wanting, but maybe I’ll find something or I’ll just get creative with what I already have…

Anyways, as I’m sure you can tell from the screenshots, this game is going to be using a fair amount of graphics from Rudora no Hihou. Well, I’ve got pretty much every chipset I can find from the game, and I was disappointed to see there were a few locations that were left out. The inners for the towns, for instance, haven’t been ripped, which is rather ironic considering the popularity of the town’s chipset. SO, I decided to attempt ripping my first chipset this morning. It turned out rather well, I think. link

After that, I didn’t really feel like doing much, so I just downloaded a bunch of music for the game.

That’s about it really.

“Maybe people will play this…”

So I had lost some motivation for my game a couple days ago, but I ran through it after I had made some minor changes to it and came out of it happy. I was thinking “Hey, people might play this…” and that’s what got me motivated again. Maybe people WON’T play it, but if I can keep myself thinking that, I might just finish it, haha.

Anyways, I’ve been working on the boss scene for the cave today…It’s pretty rad so far, and almost finished too. Just have to throw in some dialogue here and there and it’ll be done. The storyline has been figured out for the next portion of the game, thanks to some brainstorming with my buddy, so I’m glad that’s out of the way, considering I lose motivation when I realize I have no idea where the story is going.

I think that’s about it. Might have some more/better screenshots up later.

Rip, Rip, Rip

Ok, so the class menu is done for now, along with its tutorial. Today, I didn’t really feel like making any new maps and the like, so I just started ripping graphics from Rudora no Hihou(the game this game will get most of its graphics from).

Sion Sprites Foxy Sprites Ig Spell Animation

That’s what I’ve ripped so far. Delicious.

Plans for tomorrow:

  • More ripping
  • Make the tutorial on strategy
  • Work out the rest of the plot line for the game

Class System Hysterics

So I’ve been working on the CMS for the class system and it’s been a frustrating but rewarding experience. A lot of times I found myself staring at the screen going “Wth,” but I got through it and have a semi-functional CMS to show for it (semi-functional because it only lets you change the class of one character and even then, it doesn’t show the full amount of classes available to that character).

The class system will allow you to change any of your characters’ classes any time you’re able to open the class menu (when you’re not in a battle or a cutscene), and still retain your characters level, along with obtaining all the skills that you would have gained if you had been leveling as that class the whole time.

If that’s hard to understand, I’m sorry, but it’ll make sense in-game. Promise. 😀

The plan is to have each character have three to five class choices (some characters will be able to obtain the same classes, I’m not insane enough to create five unique classes for each character) by the game’s end. Some classes will be special, though, and won’t be able to be obtained by regular means.

Introduction Mayhem

So today I FINALLY worked out the way this game is going to start out. At one point, I had two different introductions set up, then I realized I could combine the two to make it way cooler and make things easier on me. I still need to rework the opening scene where Leo and Jade (the characters you start with) are on an airship because it’s still rough-ish. Also, I need to go back and rework some dialog so it reflects the personality of the characters a bit more.

If things go as planned, I should have the introduction finished(finished, not polished) or close to finished by the end of today. Fun, fun.

The Unfinished page for The Unfinished

This a blog that I will use to track the development of my game: The Unfinished.
It’s unfinished right now (haha), but within the next couple days I’ll probably spruce it up. Maybe when I get some wicked screenshots.
